Peaceful River

I have never participated in a 100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups  (WCGU) before.  But it looked interesting, and the picture subject was beautiful and tantalizing.

Much of my childhood was spent at the river.  Peacefulness overtakes you while watching little fish gobble bugs at the surface, causing ripples in the gentle current.  These were the days before iPods, Nintendo DS, cell phones.   My best friend and I found joy just gazing at nature.  We tossed in leaves and watched them float away, sometimes racing them to the big tree.  Today I reflect on our days of swimming, fishing, and bug catching.  I bring my son here to revel in the memories of my childhood.  He’s bored, he wants to play Angry Birds on my phone.

  1. Ain’t it the truth!
    Nicely told. 🙂

  2. Nicely done. Oh for the days when kids would stay outside by choice. I have to force my daughter out sometimes.

    • Thanks. -There have been days where I’ve actually used my son’s trampoline as a punishment for being too rowdy in the house…can you believe it? (AWWW Mom, don’t make me jump on my really nice (& expensive) trampoline that you would have given anything to have as a child!–Hahahaha!)

  3. I can remember those days of peace and nature. Technology has a lot to answer for these days. Well written.

    • Thank you. I loved some of the dark & creative stories that others came up with, but the river has always been a place of peace for me. 🙂
